Saffuran Somei was the elder of two brothers, sons of Saffuran Iyun, a wealthy moneylender near Cherak. Iyun was a stout pragmatist and saw no problem showing the rough side of his hand to anyone who disagreed with him, least of all his sons. Though he intended to groom Somei as his heir, Somei saw more of wonder than of finance about mathematics.
Eventually, Somei ran away from home, finding work in Cherak. When his father grew ill many years later, he knew he would have to return home to face him. He did so, earning his father’s scornful tongue, but also collecting a small portion of the estate as inheritance. The majority, he learned, had been transferred to Somei’s younger brother Unmei, who had become a mirror of their father; brutish, obsessed with wealth, and unsympathetic to Somei’s dreams of something more.
Against his father’s dying wishes, Somei broke into the family vault to study books of arcane lore, bought and stored there by Iyun to keep them from Somei out of petty spite. While completing some of the occult formulae in ancient tomes, Somei found his Exaltation, as well as directions to a Manse just south of Icehome. Without saying goodbye to his brother, he departed.
He has spent the last several years in the Moebius Chantry, learning as much about sorcery, thaumaturgy, and the enlightened martial arts as he could. However, recently, he has begun to dream more and more about memories long lost, and those dreams have prompted him to leave the sanctuary of his Manse, searching for something more…
Somei is a handsome but bookish sort, dressed in Northern finery. He has short, brown hair, which seems constantly tousled, and his eyes are almost always hidden behind large spectacles. He is rarely without long sleeves (ostensibly to protect against the cold, but really to cover the orichalcum bracers he wears).
